The present book contains one hundred and sixty problems, most of them simple, in nonrelativistic quantum mechanics. Some of these problems were used previously by the authors in their courses at the Moscow Institute of Engineering and Physics. However, the majority were drawn up or selected in the course of work on the book. This book is designed for physics students who are studying quantum mechanics approximately at the level of D. I. Blokhintsev’s book or Part II of “Theoretical Physics” by A. S. Kompaneyts. A number of problems is intended primarily for students who are beginning to specialize in theoretical physics and who are partially familiar with the contents of “Quantum Mechanics” by L. D. Landau and Ye. M. Lifshits.

Some problems illustrate individual theoretical questions which have scarcely been considered in textbooks: sudden and adiabatic changes; Heisenberg representation of operators; probability relations in addition of momenta; isotopic spin; parity; and others. The authors have tried to use relatively elementary mathematical tools of quantum mechanics to facilitate use of the book by nontheoretical physicists.

With a few exceptions, the authors have not included in this book problems which are considered in sufficient detail in the basic textbooks mentioned above and in the problem book on quantum mechanics written by V. G. Levich. Therefore, this book should be regarded chiefly as an auxiliary textbook in the study of the above books.

Relativistic Nuclear Interactions

This book is devoted to the processes of elastic and inelastic hadron-nucleus interactions at moderate ( 1 GeV) and high energies. After short discussion of the main properties of atomic nuclei we present the standard Glauber theory for elastic and quasielastic hadron-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus scattering. Then the inelastic shadow corrections which appear at high energies are reviewed with several methods for their calculation.

We consider the different absorptive parts of the elastic scattering amplitude by using the unitarity condition to study the inelastic hadron-nucleus collisions. Several phenomenological models, including Intranuclear Cascade Model, Additive Quark Model, and Quark-Gluon String Model are discussed in connection with the description of a large range of experimental data on multiparticle production from nuclear targets. The space-time picture of high energy interaction is given in detail.

Finally, the main features of high density parton matter, which is probably produced in high energy heavy ion collisions, are considered. Topics as thermalization, collective flow, parton saturation, colour glass condensate, energy loss, jet quenching, quarkonium suppression, and percolation of colour sources are introduced.

En este libro se utilizan principalmente los problemas del libro de I. E. Írodov “Problemas de física general”. El material del libro contiene cerca de 200 problemas con resoluciones detalladas, y cada capítulo va acompañado de una breve información teórica donde se resumen las fórmulas fundamentales. Todas las fórmulas, tanto en la parte tórica como en las resoluciones de los problemas, se han escrito en el sistema SI. En cuanto a las respuestas, sólo en la sección 5 del capítulo 7, “Física cuántica”, el cual está dedicado a los modelos clásicos del átomo, los valores numéricos de las magnitudes energéticas se dan en eV, como se suele hacer en la física atómica. En el libro se utiliza la numeración siguiente: las figuras se enumeran por capítulos, y las fórmulas por parágrafos. Cuando se hace referencia a alguna fórmula o figura de otro capítulo o parágrafo, se indica el capítulo o parágrafo correspondiente.

The aim of this collection is to make available in English recent results obtained by Soviet scientists in low-temperature physics. The selection of review papers for this collection was guided by two factors. Firstly, all of them deal with closely related subjects: most of the papers are devoted to superconductivity. The superfluidity of helium II discussed in one paper and superdiamagnetism considered in another are both associated with superconductivity to a certain extent. Secondly, all but one of the authors are on the staff of the I. E. Tamm Department of Theoretical Physics at the Lebedev Physical Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences. This department, which celebrated its fiftieth anniversary in 1984, is one of the largest departments of theoretical physics not only in the USSR but in the whole world. Many fields of scientific activity are being developed here, the solid state physics and, in general, the condensed state of matter occupying the leading position among them. It is this branch of physics to which the problems discussed in this collection obviously pertain.

Unidades de las magnitudes físicas y sus dimensiones

El autor de este libro Lev Arónovich Sena, esa doctor en ciencias fisicomatemáticas, profesor del Instituto de Minería de Leningrado que ostenta el nombre de G. V. Plejanov. Publicó cerca de 8º trabajos científicos La orientación fundamental de sus investigaciones es la electrónica, principalmente de gases. Una gran parte de los trabajos está dedicada a los procesos en el plasma frío, a la movilidad en el gas de las partículas cargadas, a las colisiones atómicas, interacciones de las partículas atómicas con el cuerpo sólido y a los procesos en los instrumentos iónicos industriales. Una parte de las investigaciones ha sido publicada en la monografía “Colisiones de los electrones e iones con los átomos del gas”. Además del trabajo científico y de investigación en su rama fundamental el autor presta atención a una serie de cuestiones metódicas, ligadas a la experiencia de muchos años en los que da conferencias en los centros de enseñanza superior de Leningrado. Entre estas cuestiones figuran los principios de construcción de los sistemas de unidades físicas y sus dimensiones, lo que encontró el reflejo en los libros “Unidades de medición de las magnitudes físicas”. Y “Unidades de las magnitudes físicas y sus dimensiones”. L. A. Sena participó varias veces en el trabajo de Conferencias científicas nacionales e internacionales.
